What TidyText is

TidyText is a free, browser-based writing tool. It uses AI to help you improve, polish, and translate text. It's provided free of charge, without warranty, as a utility for anyone who wants better writing without subscriptions or lock-in.

Your API key & costs

TidyText works with your own API key from a provider you choose (Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, or any OpenAI-compatible service). You are solely responsible for:

Obtaining and maintaining your own API key
Any costs incurred with your AI provider
Complying with your provider's terms of service
Keeping your API key secure

TidyText does not cover, reimburse, or in any way manage your API usage or billing with third-party providers.

Your content

You own the text you input and the improved text you receive. TidyText does not claim any rights over your content. We never see it — it passes directly from your browser to your chosen AI provider.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use TidyText to generate, distribute, or facilitate:

Illegal content of any kind
Harassment, hate speech, or targeted abuse
Spam, phishing, or deceptive content at scale
Content that violates the terms of your AI provider

We reserve the right to update these terms if misuse patterns emerge, though the tool itself has no login, no usage tracking, and no enforcement mechanism — your AI provider's own safety systems apply.

No warranty

TidyText is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind — express or implied. We make no guarantees about accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.

AI output can be wrong, odd, or imperfect. Always review what TidyText produces before using it in professional or sensitive contexts.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, TidyText and its creator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of this tool — including but not limited to API costs, data loss, or reliance on AI-generated output.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of TidyText after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms. We'll always update the date at the top.
